The Careers in Education class at Caruthers High School was able to build a classroom library filled with fiction and non-fiction books for grades K-6. This library provided students in the Careers in Education class an opportunity to reclaim their own love for reading, while also developing lessons they were able to implement in their Community Classrooms at the local elementary school. Students learned how to search for age-appropriate books, as well as identify books that were at students' individual reading levels. The students then went on a field trip to Petunia's Place in Fresno to shop for the books on their list. After the books were purchased, a classroom library was set up and students were able to plan literacy lessons for small groups of students in their assigned Community Classroom.
